I create images that offer beauty, comfort, and stillness in a discordant world. My goal is to make my audience feel calm and comfortable, a goal I also strive towards as a certified yoga instructor and Reiki healing practitioner.

I begin a work by meditating for creative guidance. I use a limited palette in order to preserve the color harmony of the piece and maintain a calm mood. Next, I mix colors from that palette intuitively, rather than conceptually. I continue by forming marks on the canvas with a brush or painting knife. I concentrate on building rich textures by using several surface-manipulation techniques, allowing my themes and subjects to evolve slowly through the painting process. I prefer hunting for images directly within the paint itself as the surface builds.

Often I spray a work with a citrus thinner, letting it randomly play with the surface. Sometimes I shift the paint with a hair dryer or wipe areas down with cheese cloth. Periodically I scrape back into the paint with a painting knife or the end of a brush. The outcome is a landscape where mood takes precedence over place.
